I play the “extremes of folk music” -- music that mostly focuses on the words. I try to play music covering all genres of music from Americana, rock, electronica, bluegrass, jazz, etc. There’s something that will fit in the singer-songwriter vein in all areas.
An emphasis is placed on the female voice, as it so often neglected.
I always remember music in the background through my life. I cut my teeth on live music in my teens in Austin, Texas, listening to folk music at Kerrville Folks Festival and blues at Antone's nightclub. I’ve continued attending music festivals throughout the years but now more toward the bluegrass, alt. bluegrass and jam band world than the folk. But singer-songwriter music is still my first love.
I recently started playing the violin/fiddle which certainly influences what you hear on my show. A fiddle tune should always be included.
