Snow Learn & Play
educational outing on McClure

Add to your calendar
Date: March 22, 9:30 am
Continues Until:
Location: McClure Pass
Details:

On March 22, beginning at 9:30am, the Conservation Center is hosting a free educational outing atop McClure Pass. Bring your snowshoes or cross-country skis for an easy and beautiful trip to the North Fork Valley’s headwaters.

We’re bringing in a snowpack specialist from the Natural Resources Conservation Service! Derrick Wyle is one of only 19 snow surveyors in the state. He will provide demonstrations on how he measures snowpack and what his measurements mean for those who rely on clean and flowing water. We’ll also have the president of West Elk Mountain Rescue along to talk about safe backcountry travel. West Elk Mountain Rescue is an all-volunteer group that conducts search-and-rescue operations throughout Delta and Gunnison counties.

This event is free, open to the public, and appropriate for all ages and abilities. The group will travel along Ragged Mountain Road, from its junction with Highway 133 at McClure Pass. Travelers should bring their own snowshoes or cross-country skis, and expect to be outdoors for approximately three hours.

Carpooling is strongly encouraged, and will be available from Paonia and Carbondale. For more information or RSVP, please contact Brian at the Western Slope Conservation Center at (970) 527-5307 ext 206 or brian@theconservationcenter.org
