Sometimes, everything… The Grass Is Dead are a bluegrass combo paying homage to the music and cultural legacy of The Grateful Dead, arguably America’s first folk rock band and one of the most influential musical artists of the last 50 years. The catalogue of the Dead’s music is a gold mine for string bands and story tellers, and The Grass Is Dead have established themselves far and wide as premiere purveyors of this rich tradition of Americana music. Pickin’ and grinnin’ is what they do best, and they have been adapting Grateful Dead songs in their own bluegrass style since 1998. A festival favorite, The Grass Is Dead has built a loyal following from their home state of FL throughout the Eastern United States through burning live shows, and well beyond, through word of mouth, social media and old fashioned taper trees. The demand for Grateful Dead music is seemingly endless, and there are countless cover bands satisfying that demand on the local level, but there are not many artists out there approaching the music from the perspective of The Grass Is Dead. It is not complicated or artsy: this is a straight forward hootenanny built to last, and fans of either bluegrass music, The Grateful Dead, or both always leave happy, because sometimes there’s nothing left to do but smile, smile, smile…

Karl Hanlon, candidate for Colorado’s 3rd Congressional District, is kicking-off a 29-county tour of the district in just 14 days leading to more...0 the Colorado Democrat’s state assembly on Friday, April 13 in Broomfield. “Support from county assemblies district wide has been incredible,” said Hanlon, a first-time candidate with little name recognition prior to his announcement last December. “I am committed to doing the hard work and continuing to show up and talk to people.” Hanlon has already put 20,000 miles on his pickup truck meeting voters in many communities throughout the district since he announced his candidacy last December. His Topple Tipton Tour begins on March 31 hitting Mesa, Delta and Montrose counties and will end in Pueblo on April 12. Come meet Karl and learn about how he plans to bring Western Colorado values to U.S. Congress.

Two Grey Hills tapestry weaver Lynda Teller Pete was born into the Tabaaha (Water Edge Clan) and born for the To’aheedliinii (Two Waters Flow more...0 Together Clan). She was raised in Newcomb, New Mexico, along with her siblings. On a yearly basis, the family took up residence behind the Two Grey Hills Trading Post, where her father worked as a trader for over 35 years. At the trading post, her mother demonstrated weaving and attracted a constant flow of tourists. This program begins with a screening of Loom with a View, a short film about 3 contemporary Navajo weavers. Pete will discuss her family’s legacy of weaving, and Navajo weaving as it relates to the 150th anniversary of Bosque Redondo. She will also demonstrate weaving on a loom. Please join us as we learn more about the people and techniques behind this rich artistic tradition.

The Goddamn Gallows formed in 2004 by founding members and Lansing/Detroit natives Mikey Classic on guitar and vocals, Fishgutzzz on upright bass, more...0 and Amanda Kill on drums -replaced by current drummer Uriah Baker (aka; "Baby Genius") in 2006. The trio started out migrating around the West for a time, holing up in Hollywood squats and squalid apartments, before releasing several albums: The Gallows EP (2004), Life of Sin (2005), and Gutterbilly Blues (2007), and finally hitting the road nearly full-time to establish their presence in the psychobilly-country scene while honing their self-described "twanged-out punk rock gutterbilly". In 2009 the addition of Avery, a fire-breathing, accordion and washboard player, as well as Jayke Orvis (formerly of the .357 String Band) on mandolin and banjo, prompted The Goddamn Gallows to explore many new directions with their songwriting and in their live performances. As evidenced on their most recent 2009 album, Ghost of The Rails, and as witnessed by their spectacular and tireless live shows, The Goddamn Gallows began to forge a path founded on their very own brand of contagious primeval abandon: an unpretentious and from-the-gut carnivalesque smorgasbord of parts old time revival, circus sideshow, and good old-fashioned rock and roll. The result falls dead center into a head on collision between something like a Western honky-tonk impromptu parking lot rodeo, and Suburbia (the 1983 Penelope Spheeris cult classic film, not the location). Though still officially Michigan-based, they have toured relentlessly since 2007, practically living out of their van and regularly performing as many as 200 dates a year. They've supported such acts as Nekromantix, Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Mad Sin, The Legendary Shack Shakers, and even the King of Surf Guitar legend Dick Dale. They continue to rapidly grow a devoted following built on their visceral and volatile blend of multiple American music styles, and frenetic live energy -but still with just enough hardcore and punk influence to make your parents hate it.
