Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a debilitating disease that affects approx 2 million people in the U.S., and which has devastated a local Grand Junction more...0 family (the Gelpis).. Friends and family of the Gelpis are showing a critically acclaimed/award winning documentary movie about CFS called ""UNREST"". All proceeds will go to Open Medicine Foundation, a non-profit organization that is funding research to find a cure for the disease. Presentations after the movie will be made by representatives of OMF and the Gelpi family. The movie is $20, and includes donated beer and wine. For an additional $15, you can attend an after-movie reception at the Springhill Suites that will include food catered by the Rockslide Brew Pub and Cafe Sol, and additional donated beer and wine. Doors open at 2:30; the movie is at 3:20; Sunday April 22nd at the Historic Avalon Theatre.; tickets available at the Avalon box office or thru Monumentaltix.com

This April we are pleased to welcome back notable southwestern painter Paul Pletka. Pletka was raised on the Western Slope, and his work features more...0 prominently in the Art Center’s permanent collection. His visit coincides with the release of Imagined Wests by Amy Scott, the first book on Pletka in over 30 years. Imagined Wests will be available in The Art Center’s gift shop for a limited time only, the week of April 23. That same week will include an exhibition in Gould Gallery of The Art Center’s Pletka holdings. Paul Pletka’s body of work is informed by the West of his childhood and, even more so, by the West of his imagination. His paintings conjure scenes from the cultures, history, and religions of the American West and Mexico—diffused, as he writes, “through the lens of personal experiences, dreams, research, and ancestral memory.” Pletka will discuss these influences in detail as part of the Art Center’s Visiting Artist Lecture Series.
