Andrew and Melissa are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp postcards. more...0 Romantically attached, they continue to exchange letters through the boarding school and college years. While Andy is off at war Melissa marries, but her attachment to Andy remains strong and she continues to keep in touch as he marries, becomes an attorney, and, eventually, is elected to the U.S. Senate. Meanwhile, her marriage in tatters, Melissa dabbles in art and gigolos, drinks more than she should, and becomes estranged from her children. Eventually she and Andy do become involved in a brief affair, but it is really too late for both of them. However Andy’s last letter, written to her mother after Melissa’s untimely death, makes it eloquently clear how much they really meant, and gave to, each other over the years—physically apart, perhaps, but spiritually as close as only true lovers can be. Performed by some of Grand Junction’s favorite Theatre couples such as Peter and Carlene Goldthwaite, this is a Valentine’s day event you won’t want to miss!

You’ve heard of Meeker’s Sheepdog Trails that they have in the fall every year, but do you know the history that goes back over thirty more...0 years. Every year Colorado Experience conducts a “Viewer’s Choice Award” where we let viewers decide what episode we’ll produce. For a few weeks (typically in March) we have a call for submissions where anyone can suggest episode ideas and we always get a long list of interesting and important topics. This year we had nearly 300 submissions! We then narrow that down to 6 finalists from different regions and timeframes and open up the contest for voting. This year the race was tight between the history of Tesla’s time in Colorado and the history of the international competition, The Meeker Classic. And, as we all know, Meeker won the vote! Last year “Aviation” won, and “Dinosaurs” and “Ladies of the Mines” before that (www.rmpbs.org/coloradoexperience/viewerschoice/). This year’s outcome was in large part due to the town itself and those who support the competition internationally. It is always fun to watch people get excited about Colorado topics, especially those within their own communities. This episode will embark on a journey, witnessing dog and handler versus sheep in the small town of Meeker, where the rugged terrain has challenged the World’s top sheepdogs for over thirty years. “The Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trials” will air February 28th, 2019 on Rocky Mountain PBS. On behalf of Rocky Mountain PBS, our sponsors White River Electric Association and Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship, I extend an invitation to our Colorado Experience screening, “The Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trails” on February 27th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Meeker High School, 550 School Street, Meeker, CO 81641. Doors open at 5:30 pm and reception starts at 6:00 pm. We will have a reception before, with hot cider and cookies provided by Meeker Classic.
