school students. Over the last 51 years, thousands of art students have been recognized and their art work displayed for the enjoyment of the community. The fair continues to be a unique collaborative effort of the Art Center, Grand Valley area schools, and Altrusa International of Grand Junction. The Art Center provides the facility, local art teachers select and hang the students’ art, and Altrusans contribute their time and funds. It is no wonder the event has continued to be a success over the years. Thanks to the dedication of so many dedicated people, the 51st Altrusa Art Fair will happen again this April.
The 2014 Altrusa Art Fair will begin April 18. An opening reception announcing the winners will be held on Saturday, April 19 from 12:30 pm to 4:00 pm. During the reception, a power point presentation of the winning art work will be shown while the judges provide commentary on each piece. The fair will continue through April 25th.
Make plans to visit the Art Center and enjoy the work of the valley’s young artists. I think you will agree that the art pieces are creative, imaginative, professional, technical, and amazing. Drawings, paintings, sculptures, batiks, graphic designs, and ceramics are just a few of the categories that will be included in the 51st Altrusa Art Fair. As in the past, it will be an inspirational fair.

to choreographers to cinematographers. Pulitzer Prize nominee Sarah Ruhl’s contemporary look at the myth of Orpheus re-tells the story from the perspective of his wife Eurydice, with her descent into Hades where she learns about love and loss, and wrestles with the decision to return to earth with her husband or to stay in Hades with her father. Written by Ruhl after the death of her own father, Eurydice’s poetic style is visually magical and emotionally alluring, providing a fresh look at a timeless story.
