Hornets varsity basketball team over the course of the 2011 season, capturing the players’ stories both on and off the court. The Hornets were riding a brutal losing streak when we arrived, and the team’s struggle to compete bears eerie resonances with the town’s fight for survival.
Medora is an in-depth, deeply personal look at small-town life, a thrilling, underdog basketball story, and an inspiring tale of a community refusing to give up hope despite the brutal odds stacked against them. On a grander scale, it’s a film about America, and the thousands of small towns across the country facing the same fight.
Convenient parking is available on the east side of the Central Library.
Community Cinema is sponsored by Mesa County Libraries, Talon Wine Brands, Rocky Mountain PBS, Chevron, and KAFM 88.1 Community Radio.

talk at 6:30
The 38th Annual Colorado Mesa University Juried Student Exhibit will be held in The Art Center’s North Gallery and Atrium from Saturday, March 20 through Friday April 11, 2014. This exhibition will showcase both two and three-dimensional artwork using a variety of mediums which include printmaking, drawing, painting, sculpture, fibers, ceramic, and mixed media work.
Under the guidance of Associate Professor of Art, Josh Butler, Colorado Mesa University Art Department students enrolled in the Sophomore Seminar course coordinate this exhibit each spring. Sophomore Seminar prepares students for future endeavors with a career in the arts. As part of the curriculum, students learn how to coordinate a professional art exhibit; they are responsible for promotion, fundraising, print/design coordination, budget, installation and all that goes into a successful art exhibition. The students work in coordination with the experienced staff at The Art Center to present this one-of-a-kind exhibit.
This year’s juror will be Denver native Collin Parson, Exhibition Manager and Curator at the Arvada Center for the Arts in Humanities in Arvada, Colorado, a center which hosts 12-15 exhibitions annually. In addition to this role, Parson is a studio artist and member of the “Pirate: Contemporary Art” cooperative, creating works using the medium of light. His work has most recently been featured in the Opening Exhibition for the renovated McNichols Civic Center Building for the City of Denver.
