February brings the largest annual exhibit back to The Art Center. The Annual Members’ Exhibit takes all four galleries and generally holds over 300 works by local, regional and out-of-state artists who have chosen to be an active part of this creative community.
The Art Center is a center for learning, and part of developing one’s work is through exhibiting. Artists of all levels can move their work out of the studio and into a formal exhibition space. Getting into the habit of exhibiting helps artists in many ways; it enables one to see their work in context of the larger art world, helps in the ability to stand back and become an objective viewer, and brings an artist’s own unique journey into a broader community conversation.
This exhibit provides many opportunities to The Center as well. Curators and educational programmers find new trends, interests and artists by intently studying these annual open exhibits. There is always work that is utterly imaginative, totally unexpected or exquisitely crafted. The Members Exhibit is not something we are just expected to do every year; it is an electrifying event that energizes the building, staff, and the entire community.
For the last three years we have given out People’s Choice Awards. Viewers can vote on their favorite work in the exhibit. This People’s Choice Award process, though seemingly arbitrary, serves as an important tool to encourage viewers to slow down and really think about each piece in the exhibit. With the power of their vote, visitors to the galleries become active participants and get a voice in what is deemed as “great art.” Another great outcome to the People’s Choice voting process is that The Art Center and its sponsors get to give checks out to artists. Maintaining and growing a healthy creative community is why The Art Center is here and why the staff bounces out of bed and heads to work every morning.
Awards are given out Saturday, February 15 at 12 pm. Voting will take place February 5 – 14.
Peoples’ Choice Award sponsors:
Best of Show by Interiors Etc. $350
First Place by George & Gayle Gerson $250
Second Place by High Noon Solar $150
Third Place by The Artist’s Haven $100 gift certificate

(OFA) is holding a press event to show the progress of the Affordable Care Act in our Community as part of a National Day of Action. Qualified speakers will be there to present.
We are meeting outside the Marillac Clinic at 2333 N. 6th Street in Grand Junction at 2:00 PM on Tuesday February 11th.
Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, millions of Americans now have access to better, more affordable healthcare - but there are still members of Congress who want to dismantle the law and take away benefits from families. Join with volunteers in our community to share stories of how the Affordable Care Act is helping people in our community.
