of Fort Collins, Colorado is abundant in bicycles, awash in craft beer and rich in arts of all kinds. Understanding the town’s unique cultural brew begins (but only begins) to explain the novel sound of SHEL. Four sisters, raised in an atmosphere of creative freedom and diligent study, have honed their musical skills surgically sharp and blended their personalities and visions into a unified whole. They are a vocal group with outstanding instrumental capabilities and an instrumental group with a thrilling vocal attack. From their fetching, unpredictable songs to their whimsical, hand-made top hats, SHEL makes a profound impression, something they are doing to growing crowds and critical acclaim. https://www.facebook.com/iloveshel $15 tix Call Jeannine at 260-5413 to reserve your seat

For many, Raku implies a specific defined technique or surface. Yet Raku comes from a deep well of abstract ideas and principles that inspire a wide range of expression .
This lecture will address the means by which Raku is currently defined and developed, and the potential to discover new forms, surfaces and firings.

June 7, 4:30pm juror Jim Romberg lecture
Opening and lectures are free and open to the public
Contemporary Clay juror Jim Romberg has reviewed the juried entries and selected a varied range of artists from across the country and Canada to represent this media in its most impacting forms and techniques. Ninety-three artists submitted 235 works and 65 works by 53 artists were accepted. On the jury process for Contemporary Clay 2014, Jim Romberg’s primary standard of judgment was what he perceived to be the quality of the work. Jim says, “A juried show is a beginning of a dialogue important to the individual and the field. It proclaims standards and showcases significant accomplishments in the field. This exhibition accomplishes these and I hope the dialogue it stimulates will be loud and far-reaching. The quality of work certainly merits such attention.”
Jim Romberg has preselected six invited artists: Nick Joerling of Penland, NC; Elaine Olafson Henry of Sheridan, WY; Patrick Crabb of Santa Ana, CA; Susan Filley of Chapel Hill, NC; Adam Welch of Brooklyn, NY; and Joe Bova of Santa Fe, NM. For more information call 970-243-7337 x 1 or go to The Art Center website at www.gjartcenter.org.
