Fundraiser for Local Needy Animals

Our pets are our family, they deserve a hand painted portrait! Come on out and paint your pet while simultaneously supporting Graceland Animal Rescue more...0 & Sanctuary! Part of the proceeds will go to the Graceland Animal Rescue & Sanctuary is not a Facility but rather a Foster-based Rescue that relies on foster home within our Grand Junction community to offer temporary sanctuary to our dogs until permanent, loving homes can be found. PICTURE SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Monday, July 9th What you need after registering: * Your favorite picture of your pet! Any pet! Horse, Dog, Cat, Bird, Turtle, even the family fish! Head-shots of your pet are typically the easiest and have the best result! Don't worry about the background in your photo, you can add any background you want when its painting time! We will only sketch the pet. * Email that photo along with your full name and a good contact phone number to CreativeCanvasParty@Gmail.com. Do this for each person coming (if paying for friends). Please put the date of the event in the subject line of the email. One pet per canvas as 2 pets can take too long to paint. PICTURE SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Monday, July 9th * Let me know if you want something special added to your pet for the painting. some people like to add sunglasses, hats, your pets name, etc. ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!! During this 45 minute dance party more...0 you'll learn 26 different dance concepts through a playful, multi-genre soundtrack. Would you like more opportunities for family fun? Do you have a little ham that needs a place to groove? Join the dance movement :) Learn the Wallaby Wiggle, Hip-Hop Hippopotamus, and get real low with the Llama Limbo. Please feel free to enjoy these free, family-friendly events. Bring water bottles because these dance parties are great workouts :)

THE GREAT AMERICAN READ, hosted by Meredith Vieira, is an eight-part television and online series designed to spark a national conversation about more...0 reading and the books that have inspired, moved, and shaped us. The series will engage audiences with a list of 100 diverse books. Audiences are encouraged to read the books, vote from the list of 100, and share their personal connections to the titles. Great American Read Book Discussions at the Central Library June 20 at 11:00am & July 17 at 6:30pm. Meet up with fellow book lovers and share your favorite selections from the Great American Read top 100 list! No need to read all the choices, just come prepared to talk about your top choice! Attend one or both meetings. Seating is limited. Registration required for this program. Sign up in person at the Central Library or by calling 970-243-4442.

A Fundraiser for the CNC

12:00pm-4:00pm, Mesa Mall: 2424 Old US HWY 6 & 50 Grand Junction, CO 81505

Paint for a Cause! Come out and support the Children's Nature Center (CNC) by painting Isaac, their star Pig-Nosed Turtle! Part of the proceeds more...0 will be donated to the CNC. The CNC is a non-profit organization and is the only living museum within a 250-mile radius that exhibits exotic animals in naturalist habitats. The center hosts more than 120 unique creatures, ranging from 13-foot pythons to 1-inch-long dart frogs to lively stingrays. The ticket price includes admission to the center's exhibits. View and learn about the creatures from 12-1pm then sit down to your own pre-sketched canvas and paint! Everything will be supplied for you, just come, relax and paint with us! Ticket sales end July 16th so be sure to purchase your ticket before then. The CNC is located near Sears in the Mesa Mall. There is no outside entrance to the CNC so enter thru Sears and find us inside the mall. About Isaac: Center Name: Isaac Species: Pig-nosed Turtle Conservation Status: Vulnerable due to pet trade smuggling. Isaac is an omnivore and a unique freshwater turtle. He has the look of a marine turtle with flippers but can only stay in rivers. He can breathe air through his nose but also take it from the water with the gills he has in his throat and butt. Isaac is playful with zookeepers but a powerful beak warns against visitors sticking fingers in his tank. However, he does like attention from visitors, just not in his water. He can be found at The Children's Nature Center photobombing pictures with guests. About the CNC: The Children's Nature Center is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that strives for education, research, and conservation. For the price of admission, a tour is taken with a biologist or volunteer who will tell you about our 150+ animal ambassadors, many of which are rescues from previous homes. The Children's Nature Center attempts to bring an interactive education of biologies, ecologies, and zoologies from around the world. We hope that you can join us for this unique experience!

Hike & Happy Hour

In partnership with Mesa County's Great Old Broads for Wilderness and the Western Colorado Alliance for Community Action, we're happy to more...0 announce our second hike & happy hour of the summer! Our chosen hike is up on the Grand Mesa near Kannah Creek and is called Carson Lake Trail and our happy hour will be at Palisade Brewing Company. The plan is to meet at Palisade Brewing Company at 10 AM on Saturday and carpool to the trailhead on the Grand Mesa, which is about an hour away. We'll hike for about an hour, or longer if people want to, as this trail is only 2 miles long. After the hike, it should be about 12:30, so we can head back for happy hour at Palisade Brewing Company.
