Skate Jam is a community event that brings together the exciting worlds of mural art and skateboarding into a day of fun and competition. Open to all ages, levels of skateboarding, and painting styles, the competitions include prizes for 1st – 3rd placements in each of the categories, and is the only skateboard competition to be held in the Grand Junction area. Prizes will be awarded to both a People’s Choice and guest judge selection. Spectating is free to the public and all are encouraged to cast votes. The City of Grand Junction Parks & Recreation Department partners with Super Rad to enhance the quality of the event, demonstrate our ongoing support for local artists and the positive use of our public spaces. Mural artwork is created on free-standing structures to make the skate-able surfaces safer for skaters while still encouraging artists to express themselves in a constructive manner. The goal is to increase community awareness and understanding of street art, as well as provide examples of how street art can be a benefit to the community by leading young artists in a positive direction.
