Collbran Auditorium, starting at 2:30. The event is tagged “Santa Rosalia Day” in honor of the Dominguez/Escalante Expedition that passed through this area 242 years ago (1776). It was common for these travelers to name the camps they set up on their journeys, and Santa Rosalia was purported to be a camp in the Collbran area. There will be a slide show about the expedition by Bob Silbernagel, the author of several books written about the history of our area at 2:30 PM. Sally Crum, also a prolific writer, will be there too. They will be signing their books as well as selling them. Plateau Valley Historical Preservation Society (PVHPS) will have several books for sale written by local families of the early settlers. Locals Bill Clark and Annie Hughes and Pat Hubbard will provide music. There will be a photo and art show throughout the afternoon and evening, with a “People‘s Choice Award” being presented at 8 PM for each division, both of which must have a western and/or historical theme and be the presenter’s own work. Blue ribbons will be awarded for each winner. Centennial families and farms will be recognized and presented with official certificates recognizing their contributions to Plateau Valley over the years. The Sanchez family will be sharing historic artifacts as well Mike Bieser will share history about the famous “Meeker Tree” incident following the Meeker Massacre. The tree still stands on the private property owned by the Bieser family. We encourage young and old alike to dress in period costumes if they like. The Lions Club will provide pioneer type food as part of a fundraiser at 6 PM. There is something for everyone and much to learn about the past history of the Plateau Valley and its beginnings. Hope you will be there.
