doors of their private studios. From the large purpose-built studio, to the small adaptive workspace, each artist studio is a unique world.
With a variety of tools, lighting, and work space, every studio allows artistic ideas and inspiration to take life. Each studio is organized to accommodate individual artists’ own special processes and techniques. The studio is where the artist spends hours, months or even years working to create art that only takes seconds to view!
Map in hand – or phone in hand – you are an explorer. Discover hidden nooks and amazing views of the Grand Valley. Visit places you didn’t dream existed, enter private sanctuaries of artistic creativity, impressive home galleries, and witness in-progress demonstrations. 10AM-3PM, on the Delta Field just east of the Fine Arts building. Tours of the art building will be held throughout the day and MED (Mesa Emerging Designers) Will be giving away 2019 Artober T-Shirts to everyone who visits each booth and completes the Artober punch card, while supplies last. Painting students will facilitate a Sidewalk Chalk Contest, limited to five teams or individuals, with prizes awarded to the top three. Chalk provided. Pre-registration required: please email sgarner@coloradomesa.edu by October 14 to register. MED will have a Temporary Graffiti Wall; spray paint provided. The MED store will be providing schwag for purchase as well. The Ceramics Faculty and students will demonstrate wheel throwing and will teach anyone who is interested in trying. Wheels and clay will be available for beginners to try wheel throwing. There are “Blind Wheel Throwing” and “One Hand Wheel Throwing” contests with prizes! Clay Club will have an assortment of student ceramics pieces for sale. The AFP&MD Clubs and Department proudly presents... • Bake sale with free popcorn. • Portraits and caricatures by our talented illustrators for $5. • Polymer clay décor and coloring sheets by our talented illustrators and animators. • “Green Screen Magic” portraits for $5 or $20 for a T-shirt. • T-Shirts printed with 8x10 photograph prints of local landmarks taken by AFP&MD photographers for $20. The Print Maker’s Guild will be demonstrating live printing of woodcuts onto T-shirts and other apparel. These items will be for sale. Bring your own T-shirts to be printed and receive a discount. Sculpture Guild will cast sculptures in molten iron during an Iron Pour. They will begin pouring around 10AM and won’t stop until all the molds are poured. There will be opportunities to win sculpture related prizes throughout the day! All proceeds from sales during Artober Fest benefit the individual student-run art clubs. Stillhouse Junkies is a trio comprised of Alissa Wolf on fiddle and guitar, Cody Tinnin on bass and banjo, and Fred Kosak on guitar and mandolin. With all three band members sharing vocal duties and swapping instruments, the Junkies conjure a wide range of tonal landscapes that pay tribute to the iconic sounds of Gillian Welch, the Allman Brothers, Tim O'Brien, the Wood Brothers, John Hiatt, and countless others while breaking new musical ground with their genre-bending original material.
