Throwback Thursday - Bob Marley and the Wailers

June 19, 2014
Last June, we were excited about the new release from Tuff Gong Records, the Legends Remixed album, featuring the music of Bob Marley and the Wailers.

The album stayed on top of two of our charts - World and College - for almost the entirety of it's stay on the new rack (just about four months), and continued spinning well after it was added to our library. H-Man of Enjoy the Ride and the Divided Sky had this to say on the record:

Redo of landmark album remixed by sons Ziggy and Stephen Marley, Jason Bentley, The Thievery Corporation and Nickodemus among others. Much care was given not to destroy Marley's Quick read more or view full article gem, but to bring it into the contemporary music scene so a new generation can enjoy.

Now, a year later, Ziggy Marley's latest release, Fly Rasta, also out on Tuff Gong, takes the top spot on the World Charts almost weekly. Read Less

Throwback Thursday - Portugal. The Man

June 12, 2014
A year ago this week we added the critically acclaimed release from alternative rockers, Portugal. The Man, Evil Friends.

The album climbed our charts here at KAFM, and stayed in the top ten for several weeks. Lance, of Radio Rapture, had this to say about the album:

Quintet, formed in Wasilla AK and now residing in Portland OR., carry on with their 8th studio release and first with producer Danger Mouse. Big, dramatic, fast paced, grim and gloomy. Nice blend of synths and acoustic with falsetto vocals from front man JB Gourley. DM and P. TM - a match made in ----?

Portugal. The Man will be touring later this year, and Quick read more or view full article will be at Red Rocks on August 21st! Read Less
