10 YEARS
Black Map, Wake Me, The Compan
7:00pm-12:00am, 538 Main st Grand Junction CO 81501

Years. And, that's a good thing. When guitarist/drummer Brian Vodinh and guitarist Matt Wantland returned to the Knoxville, Tennessee alt-metal/post-grunge band for their eighth album and Mascot Records debut, (how to live) AS GHOSTS, they burst through their comfort zones to create something new. Something better. Something career-defining.
"It's funny, I named our last record, [2015's] From Birth to Burial, because I thought it was our final record because it just didn't feel like 10 Years without Brian and Matt. But having them back is really a reunion of the core writing team and this new record actually feels like a real rebirth for the band," says singer Jesse Hasek.
While Vodinh handled drums and guitar on the new album, he's switching to just guitar for the live shows, moving Chad Huff from guitar to bass, while Kyle Mayer stays on drums. "We're bringing it back the way they should be," says Vodinh, who left the band due to family commitments in 2013. "It feels great to be back with these guys and we're in such a better place musically and creatively than ever before."

guitarist rich with the wisdom of ages. Early in his promising career, Kipori shows the maturity and control of a seasoned veteran and has the guitar chops to match.
Music became a part of Kipori's life at an early age. His grandfather "Luscious" Lloyd Lambert, the legendary New Orleans bass player who worked with the likes of Ray Charles, Little Richard, Danny Barker and Doc Cheatham, raised him. From Lambert, Kipori learned the ins and outs of the music business.
Kipori's first taste of the stage came while working with renowned gospel greats like the Zion Harmonizers and Raymond Myles. A funk outfit, Kipori Funk, Later let the budding artist stretch his talents in other directions, but the blues were always calling.
"I've always been influenced by the blues," says Kipori, but it wasn't until my grandfather passed in 1996 that I really got serious about playing the blues."
Taking his cues from masters like B.B. King, Albert King and New Orleans legend Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Kipori's sound blends blues classics and modern flavors. His fretwork is at turns fierce and playful. His songs range from blues ballads to jumping firetorms of sound. His vocals flow strong from a well that belies his age and often take clever, unexpected turns.
On stage, Kipori is an engaging entertainer with boundless energy. He moves as though his guitar were a part of him, becoming one with the audience in an escalating dance of seduction. Kipori taunts, teases, and tickles the crowd until they beg for more. When Kipori and the band get grooving, the whole club shimmies with exuberance.

While on tour with various projects over the past few years, bassist extraordinaire Reed Mathis spent his spare time rearranging Beethoven (Symphonies 3 and 6), recording each newly reimagined movement with a long and impressive “who’s-who” list of his musical brethren, including Phish’s Page McConnell and Mike Gordon, Marco Benevento, Joe Russo, the Barr Brothers, Robert Walter and Galactic’s Stanton Moore.
The resulting double album, “Beathoven,” was released September 2016 on Royal Potato Family records.
When imagining what it would be like to tour these Beethoven masterpieces, Mathis rearranged his rearrangements a second time, this time welding Beethoven’s motifs and melodies to modern-era dance beats, with plenty of waypoints for the musicians to jump off into heavy, full-band improvisations. It’s jamtronica with Beethoven — hence, the world’s first CDM (“classical dance music”) band.
While the album’s many special guests will show up at various shows along the way, to tour the album for the next two years, Mathis assembled his very own dream team: Jay Lane (Primus, Ratdog) on drums, Todd Stoops (RAQ / Kung Fu) on keyboards, Cochrane McMillan (Tea Leaf Green) on percussion and laptop, and Clay Welch — a young guitar phenom who literally grew up studying Mathis as a bass player while following Mathis’ then-band, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, from show to show as a fan.
