canyons and mesas. Trying to identify them from a book can sometimes be frustrating. And beyond simply learning the name of that mysterious flower, have you ever wanted to know more about these most colorful denizens of the desert?
Canyonlands Field Institute is offering a full day Desert Wildflower Seminar dedicated to the diversity of wildflowers in southeastern Utah. The field trip will be led by local Moab biologist and wildflower expert Joel Tuhy.
Joel, who also works for the Nature Conservancy, has been studying and photographing wildflowers in the region for over 30 years. We will not only learn the names but gain an appreciation for desert plants’ particular habitat requirements, adaptations, and interesting cultural uses.
This day trip includes lunch, transportation, hikes and interpretive talks. This program starts at 8:30 am at our office located at 1320 S. Hwy 191 just south of Moab, UT. Locations visited during the trip will be determined depending on where the best blooms happen to be at the time, but expect a number of short hikes up to half a mile round trip from the vehicle during the day. We will return to town late afternoon, arriving at CFI around 4:30-5:00.

the present day. This series covers the ascendency of instrumental music, from the early days of the piano, to advances in instrument building, to composers’ demand for greater expression. In addition to performing live, French will also share his knowledge of music theory, composers’ biographies, and cultural events that shaped the sounds of each era, providing the audience with historical context that enriches the listening experience.
Composers covered include Gottschalk, Hayden, Chopin, Schumann, Albeniz, and Bach, as well as some of French’s own compositions. Join us and discover the transformation of the piano from an intimate setting instrument to one that would come to dominate the solo performance world.

JIM BREUER LIVE!
8:00pm-12:00am, 538 Main st Grand Junction CO 81501
Not long after Jim Breuer did his first official standup gig in Clearwater, Florida, in 1989, industry folks
began asking him, “What’s
more...0
your point of view?” “I don’t know…” He searched for a meaningful
response to a ridiculous question. “To make people laugh?”
The freewheeling, New York bred comic storyteller – who made the list of Comedy Central’s “100
Greatest Standups of All Time” - is hotter than ever, a global touring sensation and regular presence on
radio and television whose rabid audience, he’s thrilled to note, is filled with “lifetimers.” Once folks see
him live, they’re hooked. Breuer estimates that 78% of his fans have seen him “five, six, seven” times.
It’s becoming a family thing, with parents even bringing young teens to see the family man and father of
three daughters, all providing genius “dad” material for his sets. Having evolved both personally and
professionally since the beginning, Breuer’s pleased to say he’s been F-word free for ten years and
counting.
