how-to-ride-the-bus training on Saturday, February 3 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the GVT Downtown Transfer Facility, 525 S. 6th Street in Grand Junction.
In an effort to help new riders feel more comfortable with the GVT service, GVT is offering a free 11-Ride fixed-route pass to any individual 12 years in age and older who successfully completes the travel training program.
Since many citizens have never used public transit, the GVT training will include information on:
Riding a GVT bus for the first time
Learning a new route
GVT’s fixed routes
Planning a trip
Reading schedules
Transferring to other buses
Paying fares and pass options
Loading a bicycle
Using a lift for mobility devices
“This training will enable any individual interested in riding GVT to gain the confidence and knowledge necessary to utilize GVT services,” said Elizabeth Collins of Mesa County.
GVT has 12 fixed routes that carry passengers throughout the Grand Valley from about 5:00am to 8:00pm Monday through Saturday. All buses are equipped with a bicycle rack, as well as a lift for mobility devices. GVT strives to make it easy to connect to other modes of transportation including aviation, rail, regional bus, walking, and bicycling.
This event will include a group ride on a GVT bus. All ages are welcome to attend, but children younger than 12 years must have an adult present. Please RSVP at (970) 256-7433.

HEAD FOR THE HILLS
8:00pm, 538 Main st Grand Junction CO 81501
Potions and Poisons is the fourth album of original music from Head for the Hills, the Colorado based post-modern bluegrass outfit of Adam Kinghorn,
more...0
Joe Lessard, Matt Loewen and Sam Parks. There’s no reinvention of the wheel here--no computer programmed banjo rolls or digitally arpeggiated fiddle lines. Instead we find Head for the Hills at the peak of their powers of musical alchemy, building little worlds of sound from the detritus of bluegrass, jazz, hip hop, folk and soul. Potions and Poisons is a look at the darker side of love, lust, and life; an examination of our affinity for and aversion to the things that make us fragile but human. Recorded at home in Colorado with the band’s go-to engineer, Aaron Youngberg (Cahalen and Eli, Martha Scanlan, Grant Gordy and Ross Martin), the record features appearances from Bonnie Paine (Elephant Revival) on vocals and washboard, Erin Youngberg (Uncle Earl, FY5) on vocals, and a lush string section. Potions and Poisons is the most Head for the Hills record yet, and in the great tradition of bluegrass (and soul and folk and old time music), it delivers some bitter pills, but the ten new original songs are more than a survey of the human condition. This is reflective but buoyant music, restorative and full of vibrancy.
