Everyone has a go-to list of jokes or funny stories they share at parties to elicit laughs and chuckles. So how do you take those random and unrelated topics and compile them into a deliverable standup set? Well, writing of course. Come and chat with a local comedian as she shares her approach to writing for standup and stringing together the perfect set. Our presenter: Emilie Stickley is a Western Slope native and co-founder of the local comedy group Joke Junction. Writing has always been a hobby in her life; from the smattering of paragraphs that would never become novels to poetry and comedy sets, Emilie finds writing in any form to be a great creative outlet. Her passion for standup comedy has led her to performing at various venues around town, and finally to cultivating the Grand Valley’s first ever comedy exclusive open mic night. In the future Emilie hopes to continue creating spaces and opportunities for comedic expression including shows and workshops.

newly diagnosed with oral cancer in 2022. This is expected to continue as there is no national screening policy or protocol, and the risk factors for the disease continue to be relatively unchanged. There are two distinct pathways by which most people come to oral and oropharyngeal cancer. One is through the use of tobacco and alcohol, a long-term. The Oral Cancer Foundation is hosting its first ever Awareness Walk in Fruita. We will be offering free cancer screenings to the public and resources should something look suspicious during the screening. Please join us in bringing oral cancer awareness to the Western Colorado community.
