It’s Spring fundraising time here at KAFM, and the on-air pledge drive will start April 10th. I wrote a letter to our current members recently to let them know the season is upon us! As I was writing that letter, I told them I had just heard a cut off the new Punch Brothers cd on KAFM. A few days before that, I heard about Stevie Wonder’s concert coming up in Denver, and I saw Toney Rocks in The Radio Room in late February. I heard the first Boomers & Beyond program on a KAFM podcast, met Pastor Len Crow when he was at KAFM to do an interview about his horseback-fundraiser on Community Affairs, and have followed trumpeter Ireesh Lal on his journey across the KAFM charts. My first exposure to Ireesh came through KAFM, when my daughter and I got to fill in for a programmer who couldn’t make it for his shift!
That, my friend, is what KAFM is all about – connecting you to the community, immersing you into a world of music, ideas and discussion, bringing the community and the world to you through KAFM 88.1 and online at kafmradio.org.
Whether you are someone who got that letter, or are brand new to KAFM, or you’re someone who has listened a lot but has never contributed, you probably have a list of music or interviews that have caught your attention, you tune for an amazing mix of music, or you’re drawn to the unique perspectives from our many volunteer programmers.
Please understand -- YOUR MEMBERSHIP KEEPS THE PROGRAMMING ALIVE – the dollars you contribute maintain our direct connection to you and your ears.
Our goal for KAFM membership for the first half of 2015 is $43,000, which is almost 25% of our budget! Thanks to some really early pledges and our cadre of sustaining members, we are already several thousand dollars on our way to that goal. Please make your contribution early – you’ll shorten the pledge drive – which means more music, more interviews, more connections!
And, speaking of community and sustaining members – Jamee, Doug and the team at Enstrom’s are making a special offer for current and brand new KAFM sustaining members. When you sign up to contribute $22 or more a month, KAFM will give you the Enstrom Coffee Toffee card! Each month you can stop by Enstrom’s for a free gourmet coffee or a 6-Piece Petite box of toffee. Is there a sweeter way to support Community Radio?
Along with our daily schedule of music, community affairs and features, we are working on some other special projects I want you to know about, including:
engaging local youth by starting new production on Ask a Scientist and the Kids Voting project
revamping our internal computer network to improve on-air and office services
making plans to finalize a translator tower site near Palisade, to improve the signal in that area
we are developing a media sponsor program in order to provide additional support to area non-profits
The Radio Room will be busy with concerts, lifelong learning lectures and the Grand Junction Film Festival
Kenton Seth, owner of Paintbrush Gardens, will be creating a beautiful new xeriscape scene here on the KAFM property over the Spring and Summer
So, there’s a lot going on, but before you do anything else -- YOU CAN MAKE YOUR CONTRIBUTION ONLINE RIGHT NOW. Check out the suggested levels which qualify you for very cool KAFM premiums including a new KAFM design by Dave Goh on our t-shirts and mugs. We have the Enstrom Coffee Toffee Card for sustaining members at $22 bucks a month, and we have a Day Sponsorship available for you if you give $240 or more. You can wish your favorite person a happy birthday six times a day, celebrate an anniversary (which serves as a reminder to you if you keep putting off getting your best partner a card and gift!), or offer a memorial to a passed family member. Other Day Sponsor messages are possible. Contact us if you have questions about this new giving level.
Hope to see your pledge come through HERE, and would love to see you at the station sometime!
Also, we are very interested to learn more about the impact of KAFM on the Grand Valley community. We have a survey available and hope you will fill it out.
